AI Engineer for Document & Image Processing in the Water & Environmental Utilities industry.

Location: Aartselaar, Belgium – Hybrid.

Contract: Full-time consultancy.

Start: ASAP.

Duration: Until 31 December 2026.

Languages: Dutch – full professional proficiency; English is a plus. We are looking for an AI Engineer to analyse and improve a business process involving technical documents delivered at the completion of infrastructure projects. You will identify opportunities for AI-assisted automation and deliver a hands-on proof of concept, initially focused on extracting information from documents and images to populate a machine database.

Responsibilities: Analyse the existing business process and identify opportunities for digital optimisation; Assess potential AI use cases and their business value; Develop a POC for document and image processing, extracting targeted machine parameters; Structure and categorise extracted information into usable data flows; Support the automatic population of a machine database, including equipment parameters and links to manuals; Explore transforming technical manuals into reusable maintenance instructions; Assess ways to make maintenance instructions accessible in the field, including mobile, location-based or tag-based retrieval; Explore digital maintenance feedback through checklists, comments and potential voice assistance.

Your Profile: Expert-level Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning skills; Ability to build practical AI solutions for document and image analysis, classification and information extraction; Intermediate-level experience in Business Process Management and Business Process Re-engineering; Ability to translate business needs into valuable AI use cases and a working POC; Full professional proficiency in Dutch; English is an advantage; Availability to start quickly and work full-time in a hybrid setup in Aartselaar.
