Application Architect Java

SMALS is looking for an application architect to reinforce delivery teams working on critical digital services in the public sector. The role supports the modernization of existing platforms, the rollout of new functionalities and the continuous improvement of software engineering practices in a complex multi-system environment.

Key activities include: developing and maintaining business-critical applications and shared digital services; integrating internal and external systems through APIs and service-oriented architectures; improving and modernizing existing applications and technical platforms; helping deliver resilient digital services for public sector organizations.

Responsibilities: develop and maintain business applications, application components, APIs and web services; contribute to application and technical architecture, including integration architecture, API Gateway design and technical building blocks; participate in technical workshops, Agile/Scrum ceremonies and stakeholder meetings; support testing activities, technical documentation, deployments, quality assurance, monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement; work with multidisciplinary teams; apply security, performance, interoperability and quality standards; carry out code reviews.

Profile: Minimum 7 years of professional experience in Java software development; minimum 5 years in application architecture; experience in complex multi-system environments and large-scale digital transformation projects; experience in a public sector environment is an asset; proven experience in Agile delivery environments.

Technical skills: solid practical knowledge of Java 21 or higher, Spring Boot and Spring Framework, JPA/Hibernate, RESTful Web Services, REST API, OpenAPI/Swagger and API Gateway principles, application/technical/integration architecture, IAM standards (SAML2, OpenID, OAuth 2.0), security practices (OWASP), SOA, Backend-for-Frontend, CQRS, Angular 16 or newer, Keycloak, Lombok, MapStruct, test-driven development with JUnit, Mockito, Spring Test and Cypress, Selenium and Testlink, Maven and NPM, Docker, OpenShift/Kubernetes, Git and GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, SonarQube, Flyway or Liquibase, PostgreSQL, SQL Server and relational databases, BPMN and UML, Jira and Confluence, Dollar Universe, JBoss 7.4 and Tomcat, business analysis and process descriptions, Agile/Scrum methodologies and CI/CD.

Soft skills: strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to quickly understand and maintain existing codebases, solution-oriented communication style, autonomous, proactive and quality-focused.

Languages: French expert level, English working proficiency.

Working environment: hybrid working model, regular on-site presence may be required.
