Omschrijving
Our client is a major international organisation active in logistics, parcel delivery, e-commerce services and digital solutions. As part of its ongoing Cloud and cybersecurity transformation, the organisation is strengthening the security architecture of its AWS environment. The objective is to establish a consistent, scalable and secure Cloud framework that can support current and future digital initiatives. The organisation is therefore looking for a senior AWS Security Architect who can define the architectural direction, security principles and reusable standards governing AWS environments.
As an AWS Security Architect, you will be responsible for designing and guiding the organisation’s AWS Security Architecture. You will define the target security architecture, reference patterns and technical standards that will be implemented by Cloud, infrastructure, DevOps and DevSecOps teams. This is not a purely governance-focused or documentation-based position. You must be technically credible, understand how AWS security controls are implemented and remain involved throughout the delivery lifecycle.
You will work closely with AWS engineers, security specialists, infrastructure teams, solution architects and project stakeholders to ensure that security requirements are translated into concrete, implementable and sustainable solutions. Key responsibilities include defining and maintaining the AWS Security Architecture, designing reusable AWS security patterns, translating cybersecurity, risk and regulatory requirements into technical controls, reviewing Cloud and application architectures, guiding implementation teams, defining security requirements for new workloads, establishing IAM and least-privilege standards, defining encryption and key management approaches, contributing to vulnerability management, designing logging and monitoring architectures, defining backup and recovery requirements, reviewing implemented solutions, documenting decisions, supporting Cloud Security governance, and communicating risks to stakeholders.
The technical environment includes AWS-native services such as IAM, Security Hub, GuardDuty, logging and monitoring, network security, encryption, secrets management, vulnerability management, backup and disaster recovery, infrastructure automation, and Cloud Security posture management. The candidate is not expected to know only a specific list of AWS services; the most important requirement is the ability to combine AWS security capabilities into a coherent and scalable architecture.
Required profile: significant professional experience in AWS Cloud Architecture, strong demonstrable experience in AWS Security Architecture, ownership of architectural decisions, solid understanding of AWS identity, network, infrastructure and data security, strong knowledge of IAM, experience with vulnerability management, security monitoring, encryption, backup and resilience, ability to translate risk and compliance requirements, experience with DevOps/DevSecOps teams, and ability to produce clear documentation.
Must-have requirements: proven AWS experience in a complex environment, genuine Security Architecture experience, demonstrable experience defining AWS security architectures, broad knowledge of AWS security, technical depth to guide teams, autonomy, and strong English communication skills.
Nice-to-have: AWS Certified Security – Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, other relevant certifications, experience in regulated environments, knowledge of NIS2 or ISO 27001, experience across business units, and knowledge of French or Dutch. Soft skills include autonomy, pragmatism, ability to defend decisions, effective communication, simplification of complex concepts, collaboration, structured analysis, and staying current with AWS developments.
This role is not for a general Enterprise Architect, Azure-focused architect, Security Governance specialist, DevOps Engineer without architecture ownership, operational Security Engineer, or policy-focused consultant.
Practical information: Location Brussels, hybrid working model, English required (French or Dutch advantage), senior or expert level, freelance consultancy assignment.
Duration: long term, but 3-month contracts.
