Omschrijving
A leading organization in the railway infrastructure and engineering sector is looking for an experienced Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to strengthen its IT and security governance team. The role is freelance/contract, part-time (50%), based in Brussels, Belgium with a hybrid working policy. The initial contract runs until June 2027 with possible extension up to 36 months total. You will play a key role in defining and operationalizing the organization’s information security strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting secure technology and business operations across the enterprise. This is a strategic yet hands-on position requiring strong stakeholder management, governance expertise, and operational security leadership.
Key responsibilities include developing, implementing, and operationally managing the information security strategy; conducting security risk assessments related to technology implementations and information management; establishing and maintaining information security governance frameworks and processes; supporting regulatory compliance initiatives, including GDPR; leading security awareness and training initiatives; defining, publishing, and monitoring compliance with information security policies; providing security guidance to operational IT teams, especially around application development, change management, and technology architecture; acting as the primary contact for information security and GDPR-related matters with key stakeholders; coordinating external security engagements such as penetration testing and audits; and reporting security posture, risks, and initiatives to senior management.
Required experience and skills include a minimum of 10 years of experience in information security, project management, and stakeholder management; strong knowledge of information security governance, regulatory standards and privacy compliance, ISO 27001 frameworks and security management systems; experience building and managing security processes, organizations, and governance structures; strong communication and coordination skills; and the ability to continue and mature existing security initiatives and strategies. Professional security certifications are considered a strong advantage, and experience within engineering consultancies and/or the railway industry is a plus.
Language requirements: Dutch and/or French at C2 level, strong operational knowledge of the second national language (minimum B2), and English is considered a plus. A minimum Bachelor’s degree is required.
