A leading organization in the Belgian energy sector is looking for an experienced Data Scientist / Data Engineer to join a digital solutions team supporting grid development, scenario management and grid studies. The role focuses on establishing the digital, data and analytical foundations required for smarter investment decisions, faster study execution and more resilient grid planning. Key responsibilities include: design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines on Azure and Databricks; collect, transform and integrate data from multiple internal and external sources; ensure data quality, consistency, traceability and governance across the data platform; manage and optimize Azure Data Lake, Databricks workspaces and distributed data processing environments; develop data models and datasets supporting grid studies, scenario management and business analytics; enable AI, Machine Learning and advanced analytics use cases through trusted and well-governed datasets; explore and implement AI-driven solutions to improve data quality, automate processes and enhance decision-making; implement monitoring, automation and performance optimization of data workflows; collaborate with business stakeholders to translate data requirements into technical and AI-enabled solutions; maintain technical documentation using Markdown and Confluence. Required skills and experience: strong hands-on Python experience, particularly Pandas and Polars; advanced knowledge of SQL and data access frameworks; experience with Databricks, Azure and PySpark; good understanding of scalable and distributed data processing; ability to develop and maintain data pipelines, analytical datasets and data products; advanced knowledge of Excel and VBA; experience building dashboards and reporting solutions with Power BI or Streamlit; ability to transform complex datasets into actionable insights and KPI monitoring tools; experience with Git and collaborative software development practices; strong focus on code quality, maintainability and knowledge sharing; experience documenting technical solutions using Markdown and Confluence. Nice to have: knowledge of R, particularly data.table; familiarity with AI/ML concepts and AI-enabled data solutions; previous experience within the energy sector, power systems or grid planning. Education and languages: bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Engineering, or equivalent professional experience; master's degree is considered an advantage; fluent English required; knowledge of Dutch and/or French is a strong advantage. Working arrangement: Brussels, 3 days per week onsite by default. For non-EU candidates, an existing Belgian work permit and valid residence permit allowing employment in Belgium are required.
