Within the Engine Development organization, the System Definition Group is responsible for defining new engine and aftertreatment concepts, translating customer and regulatory demands into technical requirements, and ensuring product quality throughout the development process. As an Engine Property Definition Engineer, you will become a subject matter expert in engine performance characteristics and act as a bridge between vehicle divisions, project management, and engineering teams.

You will develop in-depth knowledge of key engine performance characteristics and customer expectations, define and analyze engine properties such as Fuel Economy, Emissions, Diagnostics, Startability, Heat Rejection, Torque & Speed Performance, and NVH (Noise, Vibration & Harshness). You will investigate engine performance topics across various engine technologies, perform data analysis, simulations, and scope request investigations, assess the technical impact of hardware changes, legislative and regulatory updates, and evolving customer expectations, and support Property Owners with scope studies and failure investigations.

You will translate vehicle-level customer requirements into technical engine requirements, create, maintain, and publish the Product Description Book (PDB), the highest-level product requirement document, monitor scope requests and ensure proper requirement traceability, and manage stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of product property milestones. You will drive the deployment and ownership of requirements across the development organization.

We expect a Master's degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, minimum 2 years of experience in engine performance development and/or engine testing, a strong understanding of one or more of engine combustion, turbocharging, fuel economy, VECTO, GEM standards, engine cooling, engine startability, engine torque & speed performance, a proactive mindset with strong stakeholder management skills, an analytical, structured, and detail-oriented working style, experience with Requirement Engineering, experience with IBM DOORS Next Generation (DNG) being a strong plus, excellent presentation and communication skills, the ability to understand complex systems and maintain a practical approach, and fluent English communication skills.
