Expert Scrum Master

The major Belgian bank in Brussels is scaling agile delivery across several teams. It needs an Expert Scrum Master who takes ownership of delivery across squads, runs the Scrum ceremonies and coaches the team and its stakeholders so they get the most out of the methodology.

Responsibilities: Act as delivery owner across several squads; set up and facilitate the Scrum ceremonies (daily stand-up, sprint review, sprint planning, retrospective) and other meetings; schedule and follow up the key steps of the agile methodology; guarantee smooth use of Scrum and help the team overcome obstacles; support the Product Owner with the product backlog; help the team deliver against the Definition of Done and keep the sprint backlog healthy; track team capacity and velocity metrics for planning and progress reporting; coach and challenge the team so it gradually becomes self-organising; protect the team from outside distractions and act as agile ambassador in the organisation; report to management on how Scrum is deployed and manage risks and issues.

Mandatory business experience: expert knowledge of agile methodology and techniques (e.g. Kanban) with ≥6 years; managing multiple dependencies in complex banking organisations.

Mandatory functional experience: agile coaching combined with ownership of delivery (expert, ≥6 years); Scrum facilitation: ceremonies, Definition of Done and sprint backlog; capacity and velocity tracking for planning and progress reporting; risk and issue management.

Mandatory technical experience: agile reporting and follow-up tools (e.g. Jira); automated unit and functional testing and continuous integration tooling; software development methodology; project management methodology.

Language requirements: English (fluent, mandatory); Dutch (fluent, not mandatory); French (fluent, not mandatory).

Soft skills: team player with experience in multi-cultural teams; strong communicator; organised and structured; knowledge sharing and continuous learning mindset.

Location detail: Brussels (5 min walk from Central Station) - hybrid ~50% on site / 50% homeworking. Remote/telework from Belgium only.

Start date: 2026-10-01.

Duration: 12 months.

Estimated daily rate (EUR): 650 - 800 (Rivant market estimates for guidance, not a client rate card).
