Finance Controller / Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Finance Controller / Year-End Close Accountant to support a client’s finance team during a critical reporting period. This is a part-time freelance assignment (2 days per week) with a primary focus on the preparation, coordination, and successful execution of the annual financial closing process. The ideal candidate is a hands-on finance professional with strong accounting expertise and proven experience managing year-end closings independently, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.

Key responsibilities: Lead and coordinate the year-end close process from start to finish; Prepare and review statutory accounts and annual financial statements; Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies; Ensure all accounting entries, accruals, and provisions are correctly recorded; Coordinate with external auditors and support audit requests; Perform month-end closing activities where required; Review general ledger transactions and maintain accounting accuracy; Support cash flow reporting and financial analysis; Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen financial controls and reporting efficiency; Collaborate with finance teams and key internal stakeholders.

Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, financial control, or financial reporting; Proven experience managing year-end closing activities independently; Strong knowledge of Belgian accounting standards and financial reporting requirements; Experience working with ERP systems and advanced Excel; Ability to work autonomously in a freelance project environment; Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail; Prior experience working with external auditors is highly desirable.
