Java Back-end Tech Lead - ENG/NL

For a client, I'm on the lookout for a Java Back-end Tech Lead who enjoys combining technical leadership with hands-on software development. This is a role for someone who likes to stay close to the code while helping shape technical direction together with other experienced Tech Leads and senior engineers. The engineering culture is highly collaborative, and you'll be working alongside strong technical peers rather than leading from a distance.

Tech stack: Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, CI/CD, SQL databases, Modern cloud-native development environments. What they're looking for: Extensive experience in Java back-end development; Previous experience as a Tech Lead, Lead Engineer, Staff Engineer, or Principal Engineer; Hands-on mindset and willing to actively contribute to the codebase; Strong understanding of software architecture and engineering best practices; Excellent communication skills; Someone who is comfortable working with highly skilled senior engineers and collaborating with other stakeholders; A pragmatic engineer who values teamwork, technical excellence, and knowledge sharing.

Practical details: Freelance assignment; 12 months, with option to extension; 40 hours per week; Hybrid working model (3 days per week on-site); Amsterdam area; English and NL both possible.
