Mainframe DB2 Manager – 100% Remote

Brief Summary: We are looking for a Senior Mainframe DB2 System Programmer with strong hands-on experience in DB2 for z/OS, Data Sharing, DDF, system upgrades and performance tuning. You will take ownership of complex DB2 environments and support migrations from Broadcom/CA or BMC tools to IBM utilities. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with SMP/E, z/OS internals, Disaster Recovery, BSDS/log management and mainframe security. Experience with REXX, CICS, IMS and zOSMF is a plus.

Working environment: This is a hands-on technical DB2 assignment within an English-speaking Mainframe environment.

We are looking for a Senior Mainframe DB2 System Programmer with strong hands-on experience in DB2 for z/OS, Data Sharing, system upgrades, performance tuning and database utility migrations. You will work across business-critical mainframe environments and play a key role in maintaining, modernising and improving the DB2 landscape. This is a senior technical position for someone who understands DB2 beyond the DBA level and is comfortable working directly with subsystem configuration, z/OS internals and large-scale migrations.

What will you do: Install, configure, maintain and upgrade DB2 for z/OS subsystems. Manage DB2 Data Sharing configurations, including adding, changing and decommissioning members. Configure and support Distributed Data Facility (DDF) and distributed DB2 connectivity. Support modernisation programs migrating legacy CA/Broadcom and BMC database tools to native IBM DB2 utilities. Monitor and optimise DB2 performance, including buffer pools and SQL access paths.

Execute and support online and offline DB2 utilities. Support DB2 Disaster Recovery, log management and BSDS procedures. Install and maintain DB2 software using SMP/E. Troubleshoot DB2 incidents and provide hands-on technical support. Work with Mainframe security solutions and underlying z/OS system components.

Tech/tooling: DB2 for z/OS, DB2 Data Sharing, DDF, IBM DB2 Utilities, SMP/E, BSDS and DB2 logging, SQL and access-path tuning, z/OS, JCL, RACF / Top Secret / ACF2, CA/Broadcom and BMC DB2 tooling, REXX.

Must-haves: 10 to 20 years of hands-on Mainframe DB2 experience. Strong practical experience with DB2 for z/OS subsystem installation, configuration and maintenance. Experience with DB2 Data Sharing environments. Experience with DDF and distributed DB2 connectivity. Experience with online and offline DB2 utilities. CA/Broadcom-to-IBM or BMC-to-IBM utility migration experience. Experience with SMP/E installation and maintenance. Understanding of z/OS internals, including LLA, PROG, APF, LNKLST and USS.

Experience with Mainframe security solutions such as RACF, Top Secret or ACF2. Fluent spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves: Experience with REXX scripting and DB2 automation. Experience with IMS and CICS. Knowledge of Two-Phase Commit (2PC). Experience with z/OSMF workflows.
