Mainframe Storage Specialist – Rijswijk

The client is executing a large-scale mainframe infrastructure modernization and storage transformation program. The project focuses on managing enterprise-level storage environments, ensuring business continuity, and migrating legacy third-party management tools to IBM native toolsets. The role focuses on Mainframe Storage Administration, z/OS, CA-to-IBM tool migrations, capacity and performance management, replication, and disaster recovery.

Key responsibilities include: managing and maintaining mainframe storage subsystems, including DASD, tape, and virtual tape libraries (VTL); executing product migrations from CA software/tools to IBM native tools (such as CA Allocate to IBM TAAM/DFSMS, CA-1 to IBM DFSMSrmm, and CA Disk to DFSMShsm); managing storage replication, sync confirmations, stop/suspend replications, and personality swap activities using DELL Storage PMAX, VTL, DLM, and Data Domain (DD); performing storage allocation, dataset management, volume configuration, and optimal space lifecycle management; monitoring storage utilization, forecasting capacity demands, optimizing I/O performance, and resolving storage bottlenecks; implementing backup, recovery, and DR drill processes to ensure data integrity and meet RPO/RTO objectives; providing L2/L3 support for storage-related incidents, performing root cause analysis, and executing changes via standard CAB processes; and developing automation scripts for repetitive storage operations to improve operational efficiency.

The environment includes z/OS Storage Subsystems (DASD, Tape, VTL), IBM DFSMS, DFSMSdss, DFSMShsm, DFSMSrmm, TAAM, IDCAMS, CA Tools (CA Allocate, CA-1, CA Disk), Dell Storage (PowerMax/PMAX, DLM, Data Domain), JCL & Batch Processing, and Disaster Recovery & Storage Replication. The engagement is planned for an initial period of 12 months (40 hours per week) with the possibility of extension.

Practical details: Start date 09-09-2026, end date 08-09-2027, hours per week 40,00, contract type Secondment/Interim, rate €70-€80 per hour depending on experience.

Must-haves: 10 to 20 years of hands-on experience in Mainframe Storage Administration within z/OS environments; proven experience in product migration from CA tools to IBM software/tools; in-depth knowledge of DFSMS, DFSMSdss, DFSMShsm, DFSMSrmm, and IDCAMS; hands-on experience with DELL Storage PMAX, VTL, DLM, and Data Domain, including replication control and swap activities; strong background in DASD space allocation, dataset management, volume configurations, and disaster recovery operations; solid understanding of z/OS internals, JCL, and batch processing; and excellent analytical, incident-handling (L2/L3), and communication skills in English.
