Medior Engineer Ondergrondse Infra – Regio Overijssel

Our client is a major drinking water utility responsible for delivering high-quality water to millions of people and businesses across the Netherlands. As a Mid-Level Underground Infrastructure Engineer, you will help maintain and modernize the systems that make this essential service possible. You will work on renovation, replacement, reconstruction, and new-build projects throughout the Overijssel region. Working with municipalities, contractors, engineering firms, and internal specialists, you will turn technical requirements into safe, practical, and sustainable solutions.

Your challenge is to balance engineering quality, continuity of water supply, safety, planning, and stakeholder interests—ensuring that every project is built to last. The role involves independently managing the technical preparation and delivery of medium-sized drinking water infrastructure projects. You prepare and deliver underground infrastructure projects, including new construction, reconstruction, renovation, and replacement; apply current design standards, legal requirements, project specifications, and internal project procedures; develop technical solutions and coordinate engineering activities with other disciplines; assess designs and proposals submitted by engineering firms, contractors, and other external parties; coordinate contractors, consultants, municipalities, provinces, utilities, and internal stakeholders; monitor progress, quality, costs, planning, and technical risks throughout project execution; help safeguard continuity of the drinking water supply during construction and commissioning; oversee compliance with occupational health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements; fulfill the role of Design-Phase Health and Safety Coordinator when assigned; and evaluate completed projects, document lessons learned, and contribute technical knowledge to standards, procedures, and future projects.

The required candidate profile: technical vocational diploma at Level 4 or higher or comparable education (a bachelor’s degree is advantageous), approximately 3–5 years of relevant engineering and project experience in underground infrastructure, utilities, drinking water or a related field, knowledge of technical design, regulations, safety, contractor coordination and project-based working (familiarity with infrastructure design software and technical documentation systems is advantageous), ability to independently substantiate technical choices and assess external engineering work, clear communication with internal and external stakeholders, effective coordination with project managers and specialists, analytical ability, customer focus, flexibility, proactive approach, proficiency in English (working knowledge of Dutch is suggested for collaboration).
