Product Manager: Enterprise Data Management & BCBS 239.
The role: BCBS 239 compliance is not optional, and in most large banks it is also not cheap: a great deal of skilled time goes into mandatory data management tasks that could be standardised or automated away. This role owns the capability that changes that, across the whole organisation and independent of which data platform or warehouse a given team happens to use. Two things make it a product role rather than a compliance one. First, standardisation and automation: one way of working, a consistent workflow, and as little manual effort on mandatory tasks as the regulation allows, so people can spend their time on work that actually adds value.
Second, a technology evaluation is underway, and if it leads to a change of tooling you would lead that migration.
The environment: Our client is a large financial organisation, and you would join the group responsible for data governance capabilities used across the business. The remit is organisation-wide, which means influence matters more than authority: your users sit in different domains, with different platforms and different levels of appetite for a shared way of working. Regulatory expectations set the floor here. The interesting part is everything you build above it.
What you'll do: Own the enterprise data management capability that enables, enforces and demonstrates BCBS 239 compliance across the organisation. Drive a single way of working and a consistent workflow across data management processes, whichever platform a team uses. Automate wherever the regulation allows it, and cut the time spent on mandatory compliance tasks. Lead the technology evaluation, and the migration if the organisation decides to move.
Work with data owners, stewards, risk and compliance colleagues and engineering teams to make the standard stick. Translate regulatory requirements into a roadmap and a backlog that delivery teams can actually work from.
Technical ground: Core: enterprise data management · BCBS 239 and regulatory data requirements · data governance, lineage, quality and ownership · process standardisation and workflow automation.
Also in the mix: data management and governance tooling · platform migration · product roadmapping and backlog management.
What you bring: Must-haves: Product management or product ownership experience on data management, data governance or compliance capabilities. Working knowledge of BCBS 239, or of comparable regulatory data requirements in a financial setting.
Experience leading change: a migration, a platform replacement, or a bank-wide rollout that people had to be brought along for. A track record of standardising and automating processes across teams that were doing it their own way. Stakeholder management across data owners, risk and compliance, and engineering. Experience in a regulated environment, and the judgement to tell a genuine requirement from an inherited habit. You can hold a roadmap and a regulator's expectations in the same conversation, and you would rather automate a mandatory task out of existence than staff it.
Good to know: A pre-employment screening is part of the process, as is standard for the financial sector. Working language is English. You'll need a valid EU work permit or existing right to work in the Netherlands.
