RDS Engineer

RDS Engineer — Request C005519. Designs, deploys and supports Windows Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and enterprise core services, contributing to Deployable CIS engineering projects and automated deployment of new infrastructure.

Main duties: Design, configure, maintain and troubleshoot RDS environments, including Session Host, Gateway, Web Access and Licensing services; Manage RDS farms, session collections, RemoteApp applications, user sessions and FSLogix profile containers; Configure Group Policies for security, application access, user environments and session controls; Monitor performance, capacity, availability and user experience; resolve connectivity, authentication, profile, printing and application issues; Maintain Windows Server patches, certificates and security settings; automate administration using PowerShell; Support enterprise core services, including Active Directory, domain trusts, Exchange, web hosting, web authentication, DNS and software updates; Support automated deployment of new Core Enterprise Services baselines for deployable kits; Produce technical documentation, configuration records, operational procedures and “as-built” guides; Coordinate incident, problem and change management with technical teams and the Centralised Service Desk; Support other infrastructure projects, deputize for senior staff and submit validated monthly timesheets.

Experience and requirements: At least 3 years managing core services in a large enterprise; At least 3 years building, administering, monitoring and troubleshooting large Windows RDS environments; Experience with RDS monitoring/reporting tools such as Syskit or RDPManager; Experience providing Deployable CIS core services Level 3 support; Experience troubleshooting client operating systems and software; Previous experience supporting deployed exercises or operational environments; Knowledge of ITIL service management and practical experience with Service Transition; NATO COSMIC TOP SECRET security clearance required.

Technical expertise: Microsoft platforms: Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2025; Windows 10/11; Exchange 2013, 2016, 2019 and Subscription Edition; Directory and network services: Large Active Directory environments, Windows DNS administration and resolution; Virtualization: VDI technologies and VMware vSphere; Collaboration and identity: Maintaining Exchange, SharePoint Server and ADFS; Backup and recovery: Veeam Backup & Replication or alternatives such as Rubrik; Automation and RDS support: PowerShell, Group Policies, FSLogix and RDS troubleshooting.
