Volledige omschrijving
The scientist will join the Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within Analytical Development at Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine. AMCI is an international and diverse team of scientists performing advanced analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products and leading global analytical investigations for the commercial product portfolio and for the Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) organization.
The role involves working with data from a broad suite of imaging technologies including X-ray Microscopy (XRM/XCT), MRI, Raman spectroscopy, Infrared (IR), Terahertz (THz) imaging, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Optical Microscopy. The scientist will lead post-processing and quantitative image analysis using Dragonfly or Avizo, including 3D reconstruction, segmentation, visualization, and feature extraction from complex, multi-modal imaging datasets.
Responsibilities include developing and standardizing reproducible image analysis workflows, interpreting and communicating results, supporting imaging experiments, collaborating cross-functionally, maintaining analytical rigor, and contributing to new imaging strategies. The ideal candidate holds an MSc or PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, Materials Science or a closely related field, with strong, demonstrated proficiency in post-processing image analysis using Dragonfly or Avizo, hands-on experience with 3D segmentation, volume rendering, porosity analysis, morphological quantification or multi-channel data visualization, and demonstrated experience applying AI and machine learning models to image analysis tasks.
Experience with AI toolsets embedded within Dragonfly or Avizo, or equivalent platforms such as ilastik, napari, or Python-based pipelines (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-image) is required. Some prior exposure to imaging techniques is an advantage. The role requires a solid understanding of data quality principles, scientific documentation, and analytical reporting, strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail, and fluency in English (spoken and written).
The contract runs until 30/09/2027 with a possible extension, offering a competitive hourly rate. Hours per week are 32-40, and the contract type is fixed-term employee or freelancer/B2B. The role is based in Beerse, Belgium. The payrate range is unknown. The position is posted by Randstad as the EMEA talent acquisition partner for Johnson & Johnson.
