As the Senior Android Developer in the Car Hire Insurance & Flexibility Team located in Amsterdam, you will expand the reach and impact of two mobile experiences in Booking.com’s Android app: Car Hire Insurance, protecting customers when they rent a car, and Flexibility products for Accommodation, giving guests the freedom to change their plans. You will be working closely with native mobile teams within Booking’s app frameworks to make it easier for the 8.5M people who open our apps everyday to protect their car rentals and add flexibility to their stays.

With a talented team of UX designers, app developers, and data analysts, you will create a seamless mobile app customer experience to increase engagement and bookings. B.Responsible - Build new features end to end, collaborating across the stack with Android, iOS and Backend engineers in our fellow Insurance teams and with the wider Booking.com engineering community. - Own technical decisions and lead architectural discussions, backing your designs with clear documentation (RFCs, ADRs, design docs). - Ensure the utmost high quality of the Booking.com app in production, by monitoring crashes, firefighting incidents, solving complex bugs, and leading incident investigation. - Identify, foster, and proactively help colleagues grow professionally, taking a significant role in on-boarding new team members; - Continuously improve services you own making them more performant, and utilising resources in the most optimised way; - Ensure that the Insurance product and new features are always kept up-to-date with the latest technology standards and department guidelines. - Ensure that service-level-agreements for test coverage and quality are met by implementing tests and processes. - Perform profiling to find bottlenecks and optimize performance, and ensure that performance metrics are set up and monitored for app health. - Able to connect business and product goals to complex technical tasks. - Solve issues prioritizing based on customer impact. - Collaborate with app developers, backend developers, product owners, and quality specialists, to constantly improve customer experience within the app platform.

B. Skills - We expect our developers to know the ins and outs of the Android framework and to deliver polished products that customers want to use. We need self-starters who are great at solving problems, initiate solutions and discussions and are not afraid of solving challenges due to our large scale. Must have - 6+ years of experience as an Android Developer, with Kotlin as your primary language - Strong, hands-on experience building production UI with Jetpack Compose - Deep understanding of Kotlin Coroutines and Flow, including structured concurrency, cancellation, threading and testing of async code - Experience with modern Android architecture (MVVM/MVI, Jetpack ViewModel, Navigation) and dependency injection (Hilt/Dagger) - Extensive experience writing tests: unit, UI (Compose / Espresso) and screenshot tests - Strong knowledge of full stack engineering and backend software concepts - Experience designing and evolving API contracts between apps and backend services - Experience with multi-module Gradle projects - Excellent degree of communication skills - Being able to effectively communicate to both technical and non-technical stakeholders - Experience profiling Android apps (Android Studio Profiler, Baseline Profiles, Macrobenchmark) - Experience with A/B testing and release planning - Fully comfortable working in English, both in writing and spoken Nice to have - Experience with GraphQL (schema design, queries, mutations, fragments), ideally in a federated setup - Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform - Having shipped an app to the Google Play Store - Self-motivated to explore new technologies, applications and environments Offered - Contributing to a high scale, complex, world renowned product and seeing real-time impact of your work on millions of travellers worldwide. - Working in a fast-paced and performance driven culture. - Opportunity to utilize technical expertise, leadership capabilities and entrepreneurial spirit. - Promote and drive impactful and innovative engineering solutions. - Technical, behavioural and interpersonal competence advancement via on-the-job opportunities, hackathons, conferences and active community participation.
