Are you an experienced Senior Cybersecurity Consultant available for a freelance assignment in Utrecht? For a client of our customer, we are looking for a hands-on Senior Cybersecurity Consultant who wants to make a direct impact on technical cybersecurity improvements within a large-scale, complex IT environment in Utrecht. This assignment in Utrecht takes place within an organization operating in a technically complex, large-scale business services environment.
The company will remain confidential, but it can be described as a professional organization with extensive IT operations, complex security challenges, and a strong focus on improving cybersecurity within day-to-day operations. This role is ideally suited to a Senior Cybersecurity Consultant who prefers driving practical impact rather than only producing assessments or reports.
Tasks and responsibilities: analyzing overdue critical vulnerabilities and defining pragmatic remediation strategies; investigating weaknesses in encryption mechanisms and recommending more secure alternatives; reviewing network designs, architecture documentation, and security controls to identify improvement opportunities; assessing IAM and PAM implementations and recommending practical enhancements; supporting technical teams with security optimization and risk-reduction initiatives; translating complex technical findings into clear and actionable recommendations; challenging existing designs and approaches where needed; driving tangible cybersecurity improvements within an operational environment.
Your profile: at least 5 years of relevant cybersecurity experience; experience within complex enterprise environments; strong consulting and stakeholder management skills; ability to translate technical security issues into practical recommendations for both technical and business stakeholders; strong hands-on expertise in one or more of the following areas: Vulnerability Management, Asset Management, Cryptography & Encryption, Network Security, Identity & Access Management (IAM), Privileged Access Management (PAM); a pragmatic and analytical mindset; ability to move from identifying a problem to defining and driving a solution.
Offer: Salary/rate indication based on 40 hours and depending on experience and educational level; start date mid-September 2026; end date end of December 2026; location Utrecht; onsite presence 2 days per week in Utrecht; engagement type freelance / interim; a high-impact assignment.
