For a client in Amsterdam, I am looking for an experienced Senior Node.js / AWS Engineer to join a technically challenging backend environment on a freelance basis.
About the Role: You will work on the design, development and improvement of scalable backend solutions within a modern AWS cloud environment. The main focus is on Node.js, TypeScript and AWS, with a strong emphasis on clean architecture, scalability and maintainability. You will work closely with other experienced engineers and have the opportunity to contribute to technical and architectural decisions.
Responsibilities / Skills: Designing and developing backend services using Node.js and TypeScript; Building and maintaining cloud-native solutions within AWS; Working with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, SQS/SNS, EventBridge and Step Functions; Designing scalable, event-driven and serverless architectures; Developing and integrating REST APIs and microservices; Contributing to architectural and technical decisions; Improving performance, reliability, monitoring and maintainability; Working within an Agile engineering environment.
Qualifications: You are an experienced backend engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of technically complex solutions. You understand not only how to build software, but can also explain why certain architectural and technical decisions are made. Ideally, you have: Strong commercial experience with Node.js and TypeScript; Extensive hands-on experience with AWS; Experience with serverless and/or event-driven architectures; Experience designing scalable backend systems; Knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing and infrastructure-as-code; Strong communication skills in English.
Contract Details: Location: Amsterdam / Hybrid; Contract: Freelance; Duration: 6 months, with possibility of extension; Hours: 32–40 hours per week; Start: ASAP / To be discussed.
