Static Equipment Engineer

As an Engineer in the petrochemical sector, you play a leading role in the design, development and improvement of a plant and you work closely together on the largest projects. Together with a team of experts, you will provide efficient and sustainable solutions that meet the highest standards. The Static Mechanical Engineer provides technical discipline ownership and engineering assurance for static equipment, pressure equipment and associated piping systems, ensuring assets are safe, mechanically sound, reliable, compliant and fit for purpose throughout Project/EPC handover, commissioning, start-up and ongoing Operations and Maintenance.

The role acts as the technical focal point for vessels, columns, reactors, heat exchangers, tanks, boilers, fired equipment and other static equipment, providing direction on design requirements, inspection, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance strategies. It supports Management of Change, technical deviations, supplier assurance, spare-parts optimisation and engineering standards, while driving continuous improvement in equipment integrity, reliability and lifecycle performance.

Responsibilities include Static Mechanical Engineering Assurance (ensuring compliance with PED, Belgian requirements, API/ASME/EN/ISO standards), CSU/Commissioning/Start-Up Support, Static Mechanical Troubleshooting and Reliability, a Two-Year Spare Parts Process, Services & Contracts – End-to-End Process, and Engineering Assurance Framework Support.

Requirements: a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or a related discipline; at least 5 years of experience within the Chemical, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Energy or Process industry with significant exposure to static equipment, pressure equipment, piping and mechanical integrity; proven experience in Turnarounds, outages, commissioning and start-up; strong track record in engineering, inspection, maintenance and integrity management; experience with EPC contractors, OEMs, inspection companies and specialist suppliers; experience supporting major capital projects; experience developing, reviewing and validating spare-parts requirements.

Professional engineering registration (PE, CEng or equivalent) is preferred; certification in pressure equipment, inspection, mechanical integrity or corrosion (API 510, API 570, API 580/581, NACE/AMPP) is highly desirable. Technical skills include static equipment and piping engineering, API/ASME/EN/ISO/PED compliance, mechanical design, materials and process safety, corrosion and degradation mechanisms, inspection, NDT, RBI and remaining-life assessment, troubleshooting, RCA, RCM and FMEA, CMMS, asset data and maintenance strategies, SPIL validation and spare-parts optimisation, supplier assurance and technical deviations, and commissioning, testing, preservation and handover.
