Technical Consultant (Mainframe)

The Technical Consultant (Mainframe) will lead and oversee the development, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation of mainframe applications which are of high-quality and scalable. They will lead and oversee the implementation of automated Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery, and Continuous Deployment pipelines for Retail Domain projects. They will provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and support team members.

They will collaborate with Technical Architects, Functional Analysts, and Business Process Analysts to grasp project requirements. They will review low-level designs and code while ensuring adherence to organizational standards and provide guidance to the team. They will actively contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes. They will participate in rotations for providing needed run time technical support for Production PL/I applications.

They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze requirements and design efficient solutions. They will lead efforts in optimizing and modernizing existing mainframe systems. They will drive process improvements and efficiency enhancements. They will coach the team to enhance their proficiency in new technologies. They will ensure project deliverables comply with Project Management methodologies. They will stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends, implementing best practices.

Required skills and abilities include: extensive expertise in mainframe technologies such as PL/I, JCL, VSAM, and CICS; advanced understanding of database systems, particularly IDMS & DB2, and related tools; proficiency with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Git, Artifactory, and Jira; expertise in developing pipelines for CI/CD processes; experience in working with different IDEs, particularly IDz; skill in conducting Impact Analysis and Work Package Estimation for complex PL/I applications; well-versed in SOAP and REST concepts with experience in developing RESTful services; in-depth knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) principles; working knowledge of Traditional & Agile/Scrum methodologies; expertise in end-to-end testing for complex projects; strong project planning and execution skills ensuring timely and quality deliveries; motivation to learn and mentor team members; retail domain expertise is advantageous; experience in mainframe modernization/automation projects is beneficial; proven experience in leading and managing development teams; excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities; strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; capability to mentor and guide team members effectively; positive mindset and continuous learning attitude; and the ability to work under pressure and adhere to tight deadlines.

Preferred qualifications include: proficiency in modernization initiatives within the mainframe environment; proficiency in any scripting languages; familiarity with any other programming languages; retail domain exposure; and demonstrated success in driving process improvements and innovation.
